Dear Cooper Family,

“To everything there is a season a time for every purpose under heaven:”

After twenty-two wonderful years of being a part of Cooper Middle School, I am formally announcing my retirement from Fairfax County Public Schools on March 1st.

As excited and anxious as I am about embarking on the next chapter of my life with my husband, l also feel sad to be leaving this extraordinary place. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have matured and developed as an educator in such a vibrant and supportive community; a community where education is valued as a top priority by students, teachers and parents alike. I feel blessed to have been a colleague with such extraordinary faculty and staff, and I feel humbled by the fact that parents in this community entrusted their children in my hands. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your professionalism, support, and encouragement all these years.

Serving as Principal at Cooper will always count as one of my greatest blessings.  I am so proud of our school’s accomplishments and continuing passion for the education of our students.  It has been an absolute joy to lead an incredibly talented, creative, conscientious, kind and compassionate staff.  Never have I seen such a true community of learners, all working together so harmoniously.

The Region Office and FCPS Human Resources Department will begin the principal search process in January.  You will receive information regarding upcoming staff and community meetings to gain information on the principal selection process and ways you can provide written input regarding the skills, experiences, and leadership characteristics needed for our next school leader.

Thank you again for the many ways you have nurtured me and helped me grow as a school leader. We have accomplished much together. I am grateful to you for allowing me to serve you for over twenty years.  It has been one of the greatest joys of my life.  I’ve said many times that Cooper is like a family.  My Cooper family will always have a special place in my heart.

With love and warmest regards,

Arlene Randall
