Service Learning Fair: Parent Volunteer Opportunity

Service Learning Fair

On October 2, 8th graders will be participating in a PTO-sponsored service learning fair, where they can learn about and connect with different local organizations that provide community services. The goal of the fair is to help students plug into ways to fulfill their 15-hour community service requirement for Fairfax County Schools. We encourage parents to ask their students about organizations they found interesting that day, and who they’d like to follow up with to sign up for volunteer events. Moreover, we will be posting links and lists of organizations on our website, in the new Service Learning section. Look for links to that section in the October 2 newsletter.

Also: if any of you in our parent community work with or know of an organization that could use middle-school student volunteers, and if your organization can send a representative to the fair, please let us know. We’d love to team with you to ensure our students get a chance to see the depth and breadth of all the terrific community service opportunities available to them.

Finally – as with all the events we put on, we can always use help! Please look at our SignUp Genius to see whether you can help staff an information table. We have several tables that will be set up with laptop presentations or informational posters – you don’t need to be an expert, just available to help point students to the information.
